Crochet chick in pants

This cute chick wearing pants would make an adorable addition to an Easter basket or as a kids toy. The head and body of the crochet chick are worked in one piece together. The beak, wings, legs and pants are worked separately and sewn on afterwards. The size of the finished chick is approximately 7 x 9 cm (2.7 x 3.5 inches).

  • Gazzal Jeans yarn (58% cotton, 42% acrylic, 50 g/170 m) #1125 (main color)
  • Alize Cotton Gold (55% cotton, 45% acrylic, 100 g/330 m) #21 (grey for pants) and #89 (ornage for a beak and legs)
  • YarnArt Jeans (55% cotton, 45% acrylic, 50 g/160 m) #66 for embroidering on the pants
  • Some red yarn for cheeks and white for eye whites
  • 2.0 mm crochet hook

The eyes are placed between R 20 and R 21 at the distance of 5 sc from each other. You can make eye tightening (optional).

Wings (make 2)

R 4-5: 18 sc (2 rows)
Fold the top opening flat and and 9 sc through both sides.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew the wings to the body in an arcuate manner between R 19 and R 23.

Beak
With orange yarn:
R 1: 4 sc in magic ring [4]
R 2: (1 sc, inc) repeat 2 times [6]
R 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat 3 times [9]
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Sew the beak to the head between R 18 and R 21.

Legs (make 2)
R 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
R 2: (1 sl st, 2 ch, turn, 1 sc in the first stitch of 2 ch) repeat 3 times
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

When you have finished the last row, make 32 ch.
Skip 27 sc on the pants, make 1 sc in 28th sc and 1 sc in 29th sc.
1 ch, turn and make 32 sc on the back side of the chain, to the end of the chain, sl st.
Fasten off.
