Little elephant amigurumi pattern

Here is a free amigurumi pattern to make a little elephant toy. The cute elephant amigurumi can be keychain or a purse accessory. The finished size of crochet elephant is about 9-10 cm (3.5-4″) tall.

You will need:

  • YarnArt Jeans yarn (55% cotton, 45% acrylic, 50 g/160 m)
  • 1.75 mm crochet hook
  • 5-6 mm black beads for eyes
  • Sewing and tapestry needles
  • Scissors
  • Sewing pins
  • Fiberfill

Free amigurumi elephant pattern

Abbreviations:
R – row
ch – chain
st – stitch
sc – single crochet
inc – increase (2 sc in one stitch)
dec – decrease (2 sc together)
BLO – back loop only

Arms (make 2)
R 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
R 2-6: 6 sc (5 rows)
Don’t stuff.
Fold the top opening flat and 3 sc through both sides.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Trunk
R 1: 5 sc in magic ring [5]
R 2: BLO: 5 sc
R 3: 4 sc, inc [6]
R 4: 5 sc, inc [7]
R 5: 7 sc
R 6: 6 sc, inc [8]
R 7: 8 sc
Don’t stuff.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Ears (make 4 parts)

Make 2 with color yarn (inner part):
R 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
R 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
R 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat 6 times [18]
R 4: (2 sc, inc) repeat 6 times [24]
R 5: (3 sc, inc) repeat 6 times [30]
Fasten off.

Make 2 with grey yarn (outer part):
R 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
R 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
R 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat 6 times [18]
R 4: (2 sc, inc) repeat 6 times [24]
R 5: (3 sc, inc) repeat 6 times [30]
Don’t cut the yarn.

Put out the outer part and inner part together (wrong side to wrong side) and crochet through both parts sc around.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Then fold the ear and fix the edges together with a couple of stitches with a needle and thread or make slip stitches with a crochet hook.

Legs and body (one piece)

Legs (make 2)
R 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
R 2: (inc) repeat 2 times [12]
R 3-5: 12 sc (3 rows)
Fasten off.

Crochet the second leg, do not fasten off.
Make 3 ch on the second leg and join with the first leg.

Continue crocheting the body in the round:
R 6: 12 sc on the first leg, 3 sc in 3 ch, 12 sc on the second leg, 3 sc in 3 ch (opposite side) [30]
R 7-11: 30 sc (5 rows)
R 12: 3 sc, dec [24]
R 13: 2 sc, dec [18]
R 14: 1 sc, dec [12]
Stuff with fiberfill.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Head
R 1: 6 sc in magic ring [6]
R 2: (inc) repeat 6 times [12]
R 3: (1 sc, inc) repeat 6 times [18]
R 4: (2 sc, inc) repeat 6 times [24]
R 5: (3 sc, inc) repeat 6 times [30]
R 6: (4 sc, inc) repeat 6 times [36]
R 7-12: 36 sc (6 rows)
R 13: (4 sc, dec) repeat 6 times [30]

Stuff with fiberfill.
Fasten off.

Assembly

Make eyes tightening.

Mark point #1 and #2 at the level of R 7, at the distance of 7-8 stitches from each other using sewing pins.
Take a long needle with thread, make a knot at the end of the thread.
Insert the needle from the neck and draw it out the point #1, make stitch and draw the needle out the neck. Pull slightly. Repeat for the point #2. Pull slightly.
Fasten off.

Embroider eye brows using brown floss or yarn.
Sew black beads for eyes on the point #1 and point #2.
Embroider eye whites using white yarn.
Embroider cheeks using pink floss or yarn.

Sew the trunk to the head between R 9 and R 11.

Sew the head to the body. Don’t cut the thread after finish sewing. The remaining tail of the yarn draw out in the back of the body to make a tail later.

Sew the ears to the sides of the head between R 4 and R 5. Don’t cut the thread after finish sewing. The remaining tail of the yarn from the ear draw out in the top of the head to make a forelock.

Sew the arms to the sides of the body. Don’t cut the thread after finish sewing. The remaining tail of the yarn from the arm draw out in the back of the body to make a tail.

Make a pigtail from three threads of yarn to get the tail. Tie a knot at the end of the pigtail, cut off the remaining threads.
